students working in a class with meArt courses in basic drawing skills & watercolour techniques

FRIDAY mornings

“Creating art work for fun” are classes are held in my private studio & are therefore strictly limited to 4 students.... for adults wanting to get in touch with their inner child ! These friendly classes are for beginners as well as more experienced Artists. You can work at your own pace in a relaxed atmosphere there is plenty of opportunity for personal attention. As Jane is an experienced practising artist who has sold work internationally this is a unique opportunity to learn various techniques that will help you develop your own personal style.

If you have ever thought you would like to be an artist yourself and paint something you are proud of, then take the plunge and join one of my classes or come for some one-to-one tuition to get you started.

All my classes are mixed ability as I find my students seem to learn from each other as I help to guide you in finding your own unique style. Creativity comes from mistakes… So relax and keep experimenting! We are all creative beings…it is just that sometimes life has crushed us a little and sapped our ability to be spontaneous and express ourselves….Artistic ability is not just for the gifted…techniques can be learned to help you produce artwork to hang proudly in your home or give to friends...want something different to this? I also offer 1-2-1 tuition.

Classes at the Studio...what are they like?

Each lesson begins with some short relaxation movements - stretching & breathing to help you relax…When I remember! To encourage creativity we often start with visualisation exercises or quick drawings. Classical music playing in the background is an additional help in getting everyone's mood just right for painting. I look after you well on the course with a variety of refreshments: hot chocolate, mint tea, coffee, tea & biscuits. I try to make sure that the modules cover many varied subjects so that students can attend several consecutive terms without material being repeated. The aim is that students will find them fresh & interesting.

These courses are a new venture I started in spring 2011.Capel Manor is a 30 acre estate dating back to the late 13th century and includes a wide variety of themed gardens; some of which are previous Chelsea Flower show winners.Such a wonderful setting is a great source of inspiration to any artist. The course "Flowers and Plants in Watercolour" runs at different times during the year to make the most of the changing seasons in the gardens

... "Flowers and Plants in Watercolour" is a one day workshop this spring 2014 details to follow soon!

The lovely gardens of Capel Manor in Enfield make it a great venue for all Artists interested in horticultural subjects The aim of these short taster courses is to teach a few tricks of the trade that will improve your drawing & painting techniques. The classes are taught by local Artist Jane Kerr Wood who has sold work internationally. You can purchase drinks & snacks from the restaurant or alternately bring your own.

Improve your drawing skills & learn some interesting painting techniques. Increase your source material for future paintings with photos taken during the course, weather permitting. Enjoy time in the beautiful & inspirational setting of the gardens (fee includes free admission on days attending courses - usually £5.50 for a day ticket) Capel Manor College, Bullsmoor Lane, Enfield, Middlesex EN1 4RQ) various dates from March - Oct

Everyone is welcome on this one day workshop; from complete beginners to experienced artists as you can just work at your own level in a friendly supportive environment. The course is designed as an introduction to freeing your creativity and discovering how easy it can be to sketch animals to capture their character & give them a sense of life & movement.

There are many animals in the grounds of Capel in the livestock area, so weather permitting we can have a go at using them as our “models”.  We will also be drawing inspiration from photographs and other source material & also looking at how to develop animal cartoon characters. … so it is sure to be fun!   The tutor running this workshop is Jane Kerr Wood; an experienced artist who has sold her work internationally.

Just bring paper, pencil & your enthusiasm. Together we can have fun in exploring fluff, fur & feathers! You can bring a packed lunch or try out the Terrace Restaurant on site. Fee for this 1 day workshop is £48

students focusing on horticultrural subjects at a Studio sessionPerhaps private tuition would suit you if you don't like the idea of joining a group lesson, or maybe you just want a few sessions to help with a particular problem where individual attention would be good.Perhaps you might need help preparing your portfolio work for application to art college? You might want to just have a few lessons to give you some confidence before you join a bigger class.I charge £37.50 per hour for 1–2–1 tuition, with a minimum of 2hrs per session.

Sometimes I am approached by groups of friends with a particular interest asking me to design a programme of lessons tailored to their specific needs. This can be great fun as you already know each other...just give me a ring & we can dicuss what you have in mind. For example I have had a group who just wanted to concentrate on drawing skills for a whole day and another that were only interested in horticultural subjects...try me!There are some nice restaurants near to the studio on Potters Bar High Street or you can stay here and I will adjust fee to include a light lunch.

Sometimes I am approached by groups of friends who like the idea of having a few fun sessions together.

I charge £37.50 per hour ...minimum 2hrs for these sessions at the Studio.

If travel is involved for me there will be an additional fee dependant on distance/venue.
